Obituary: Carolyn Lichter

A native of Long Island, Lichter lived in Cherry Hill and worshipped in Haddonfield.

Carolyn Lichter (nee Garrett) of Cherry Hill, died on March 30 at the age of 89 at Virtua Memorial Hospital Voorhees, due to heart failure. 

Mrs. Lichter is survived by her daughter, Laura Austin (Joseph) of Frederica, Del., and her son John (Taffey) of St. Petersburg, Fla. as well as two beloved grandchildren, Stephanie and Scott Austin. 

Mrs. Lichter grew up on Long Island and graduated from Simmons College in Boston.  She held management positions with Bloomingdales in New York City from 1952-1959. After her marriage and relocation to South Jersey she worked for the Camden County Board of Social Services, retiring in 1996. At that time, she discovered golf, learned to play and enjoyed the game for the remainder of her life. 

She also traveled extensively both in the United States and abroad, enjoyed playing bridge and reading (especially mysteries).  

A Memorial Service will be held at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, 204 Wayne Avenue, Haddonfield on April 8 at 10:30 a.m. The family will greet friends immediately following the service.  

Memorial donations may be made in Mrs. Lichter’s name to the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, at the address above, where she was an active member since 1960 or, to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105-9959, www.stjude.org/memorialgifts.  

Interment will be private at Pinelawn Cemetery on Long Island.
