Gloucester County to distribute senior gift bags in lieu of Senior Picnic

Gloucester County’s Annual Senior Citizen Picnic will be a little different this year to comply with COVID-19 guidelines.

Due to limits on outdoor gatherings and the protection of the county’s senior population, the County Department of Health and Division of Senior Services has coordinated a special gift bag pick-up at three of its Meal Sites on Oct. 21.

Times and locations include: 9 to 10 a.m. at Thorofare Fire Hall, 1 Firehouse Lane, Thorofare; 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Mantua Community Center, 111 E. Mercer Ave., Mantua; noon to 1 p.m. at Pfieffer Center, 301 Blue Bell St., Williamstown.

Seniors interested in receiving a gift bag can call the Division of Senior Services to check availability and arrange ticket pick-up.

“The Senior Picnic is always a great event. We’ll miss our picnic this year, but we wanted to make sure our seniors know how much we appreciate them,” Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger said.

Gift bags include a $10 ShopRite gift card, snacks, giveaways and resources for seniors in Gloucester County.

“Our staff services thousands of seniors a year and this is another way to give back to them while keeping our seniors safe,” said Freeholder Jim Jefferson, Liaison to the Division of Senior Services.

The distribution is open to residents 60 years and older. Social distancing and proper face coverings are required for residents picking up their gift bag.

Seniors will receive one gift bag per ticket. Tickets are required to receive a bag.
