Animals still up for adoption at Gloucester County Animal Shelter

The county's Pet Food Pantry also remains open to help those struggling to feed their pets during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Gloucester County Animal Shelter (GCAS) is open to help Gloucester County families find their new furry friends.

GCAS is still limiting access to the public due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The shelter will now be open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. while adoption hours are by appointment only Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 4 p.m.

Any Gloucester County resident interested in adopting from GCAS can call (856) 881-2828 ext. 1 for adoptions. You can also fill out an adoption application online at www.gloucestercountynj.gov and a staff member will contact you with an appointment time.

“Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, our residents have come out and welcomed animals into their homes,” said Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger. “We have been so appreciative of the support from residents.”

The shelter is still discounting adoption fees for the animals at the shelter. Animals 6 years old and younger will have their adoption fees reduced to $35. Dogs and cats 6 years and older will have their adoption fees completely waived. Birds are available for a donation to the shelter. Adoptions are only available to Gloucester County residents at this time.

“In addition to adoptions and fostering, residents are also taking advantage of our pet food pantry,” added Freeholder Deputy Director Frank J. DiMarco. “We created this food pantry to help keep our pets in your homes. Thank you to everyone who donated so we could stock our shelves and help our residents.”

Any pet owner struggling to feed their pets due to the COVID-19 pandemic can visit the pet food pantry to pick up food for their dogs and cats. If any Gloucester County resident is in need of food please call the shelter to confirm availability and schedule a time for pickup at (856) 881-2828 ext. 3.

For more information from the shelter, please visit www.gloucestercountynj.gov or visit the shelter’s Facebook page.
