Township again hosts it all-day yard sale

Goal is to try and bring the community together.

Deptford will once again host its township-wide, all-day yard sale on Saturday, Sept. 28.

Participants can register for a fee – a donation that will benefit the Veterans Memorial in Oak Valley – to have their properties listed as yard-sale locations.

“This is the fifth year that we are having it,” said Mayor Paul Medany. “It’s growing every year. The idea is so folks can pick a house and run from one house to the next … We got the idea for (the sale) when it came up in an event meeting a few years back. We saw that other towns were doing it, and we decided to copy it.

“We’ve been very successful with it.”

Medany noted that last year’s event featured more than 100 homes, and he hopes for more this year.

Registration is available by either printing out a form from the Deptford Township website and bringing it to the township municipal office or picking up the form there first. The document will ask for a name and address, the section of Deptford where a participant lives and the amount of their donated fee. Larger donors can request a sign on their lawn advertising the sale.

The deadline to register for sign placement is Monday, Sept. 23; the yard sale’s rain date is Sunday, Sept. 29. A final list of participating homes will be announced a few days before the event on the township’s website and social media pages, along with a physical copy to the municipal offices.

The goal of the sale, according to Medany, is to provide residents not only the chance to make some quick money, but to get to know others in Deptford.

“We want to try to bring people together,” he noted, “and for people in the township to connect with each other.”
