Mayor’s video series a deep dive into the township

Washington Township Mayor Laurie Burns as announced a Mayor’s Corner video series that will appear on the township social media page.

“In the series, we’ll be diving into the heart of our community, exploring the stories, events and initiatives that make Washington Township such a special place to call home,” she said.

Burns was unanimously selected on Dec. 20 to fill Mayor Joann Gattinelli’s unexpired term. Gattinelli was in her second term when she resigned to serve on the Gloucester County Board of Commissioners. Burns will serve her unexpired term through the end of 2024.

The mayor is a lifelong resident of the township who is married with two children. She grew up with her parents, brothers and a sister and has stayed in the township with her husband, a local attorney, and kids Christopher and Brooke.

Burns has been involved in local politics for years, most recently as co-chair of the local Democratic Party. She began her work career as a paralegal and currently serves as the clerk of the county commissioners.

“I’ve been working hard alongside council, my administration and community leaders to ensure a smooth transition and continue moving Washington Township forward,” Burns said of actions she’s taken since her appointment,

“Whether you are a longtime resident or new to area tune in,” she added, “engage with us and be a part of the conversation as we work together to make Washington Township the best that it can be.”

The next mayor’s corner will be announced on the township’s Facebook page.
