A close-knit group

Love for needle crafts shared at Deptford library's crochet and knitting gathering

Anyone who loves needle crafts can join the Deptford library’s twice-monthly crochet and knitting group to work on their own crafts or artwork with others.

The group is less a class on crocheting and knitting than a place where participants help each other on projects. It meets on the first and third Saturday of every month; the next session is Saturday, Oct. 7, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Beginners and experts can bring their ongoing projects to the sessions and crafters can work by themselves or with others.

“It isn’t really a teaching/learning situation, but if you were in the middle of a project and had an issue, these lovely ladies would pool their crafting experience and could probably come up with a solution,” said reference librarian Michelle Burns.

The program is not run by the library, but by community members who also sponsor it. The library also has its own knitting club that meets on the third Wednesday of every month at 3 p.m. The next session will be on Wednesday, Oct. 18.

Burns described the needle crafts involved with crochet and knitting as “relaxing,” a way for people with similar interests to get together.

“Needle crafts are so relaxing to do, and they can be done alone,” Burns noted, “but it’s also nice to meet up with people with similar interests. Project ideas are shared, as are tips and tricks.”

The crochet and knitting group is free and does not require registration or a library card. Keep up with the library website and Facebook page for news and possible cancellations.
