The Mullica Hill library will host a Halloween costume donation drive beginning Monday to collect holiday wear for residents.
The drive starts on Monday, Sept. 20 and will continue through Saturday, Oct. 7, during the library’s regular hours. Costumes for all ages must be in good condition, meaning new, gently used and/or clean. They can also be store bought or homemade.
From a skeleton to a stormtrooper, the library will take any costume that falls within its criteria. Besides the Mullica Hill branch of the county’s six-branch library system, drives will take place at the Glassboro, Margaret Dombrosky Swedesboro and Logan Township libraries.
After the drive ends, a costume swap will be held over four days within the GCLS: Monday, Oct. 9, 6 to 8 p.m. in Mullica Hill; Tuesday, Oct. 10, 7 to 8 p.m. in Glassboro; Wednesday, Oct. 11, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in Swedesboro; and Thursday, Oct. 12, 6 to 8 p.m. in Logan Township.
“Our Halloween costume donation is for our upcoming Halloween costume swap, happening at all GCLS branches,” explained Head of Youth Services Stephanie Smith. “The Halloween costume swap is to give families an opportunity for a ‘new costume’ without having to buy one.
“We are hosting the drive beforehand so we have a collection families can choose from,” she added. “Patrons can swap an equal number of costumes they bring. For example, if a mom brings four costumes, she can swap for four new ones. If patrons just wish to donate, they can during the donation period.”
A library card is not required for the swap or the donation drive. Register for the former on the GCLS website or by calling (856) 223-6029. Each attendee must register separately and provide name, email address and phone number.
The Halloween costume and swap are among events at the Mullica Hill library for both the holiday and the fall season, including the Friends of the Gloucester County Library System fall book sale on Saturday, Sept. 30, and Sunday, Oct. 1 Let’s Draw Monsters! takes place on Monday, Oct. 14.
