Three members of Boy Scout Troop 57 in Washington Township were recognized at an Aug. 16 council meeting for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout.
Mayor Joann Gattinelli presented brothers Nicholas Michael and Gavin Francis Kushner and Evan Michael Davies with proclamations from the township during the session.
The Eagle Scout Rank is considered the pinnacle achievement. The first class of Eagles was recognized in September 1912, according to the proclamations. Davies reached his Eagle rank in June and the Kushners in March.
“Only about 4% of Scouts earn this rank only after a lengthy process of actively being involved in troop leadership positions, earning merit badges, and planning and completing a community service project,” the proclamations noted.
Davies joined the Cub Scouts as part of Pack 220 in 2012 and has earned 41 merit badges, including lifesaving and welding. He has participated in 60 camping nights and became a member of The Order of the Arrow on Sept. 12, 2021.
Nicholas Kushner became a Cub Scout of Pack 161 in 2010 and has earned 47 merit badges, including lifesaving and wilderness survival. He has taken part in 80 camping nights and became a member of the order on May 16, 2021.
For his community-service project, Nicholas chose to construct a ball pit at his former elementary school, Oak Knoll in Williamstown. It took more than 100 hours to complete.
Gavin Kushner joined his brother as a Pack 161 Cub Scout – also in 2010 – and has earned 50 merit badges, including lifesaving and wilderness survival. Like is brother, he has participated in 80 camping nights and became a member of the order on May 16, 2021.
For his project, Gavin chose to construct a prayer garden with a statue of saint and Pope John Paul II at the Church of the Holy Family in Washington Township, a task that took more than 100 hours to complete.
For his project, Davis chose to construct a 10-by-10-foot wooden utility shed for the Church of the Good Shepherd in Pitman, a task that required more than 100 hours of work.
