Deptford Township to host summer events through season

Township wants summer events to bring community together

Deptford Township. Summer events were kicked off during Memorial Day weekend observances at Veterans Memorial Park and Odd Fellows Cemetery.

Deptford Township’s summer calendar includes events that will offer residents   the chance to get out of the house for easy and affordable activities.

“There is something for every age group,” said Mayor Paul Medany.

Summer in the township kicked off with Memorial Day weekend observances at    Veterans Memorial Park and Odd Fellows Cemetery.

Family activities include a summer movie and campout Friday in Fasola Park, also known as Deptford Central Park, and shows on June 29, July 27 and Aug. 17 – all Thursdays – in Fasola Park at 10:30 a.m.

Older residents can take part in Phillies Day specials at the senior center on Thursday, June 22, Thursday, July 20 and Wednesday, Aug. 30. For the first and third days, doors will open at 12:45 p.m., 12:30 p.m. for the second date.

National Night Out at the recreation center will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 1, at 6 p.m., and the food truck Festival at Fasola Park is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 26, at 9 a.m. More events are posted on the Deptford website and will also be published in the township’s upcoming newsletter.

“The aim of all of the events is to bring the community together,” noted Medany, who will be among township officials present for the activities. “People meet folks at these events that they might never have met otherwise. We (officials) swing by these events occasionally to give people the chance to meet us.”

The township calendar will also include post-Labor Day activities, including holiday events.

“There is so much to do,” Medany noted, “that it really never stops.”
