Harrison Township’s Plus 55 Active Adults program will host its monthly senior luncheon on Wednesday, April 12, at Richwood United Methodist Church’s (UMC) Fellowship Hall.
The 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. event will enable the age 55-and-over community in Mullica Hill to get out of the house, dine with others and gather with peers in a social setting.
“It’s one of the senior activities that they (active adults) do,” said Active Adults Coordinator Barbara Showers. “It (the luncheon) helps them a lot, as it helps keep their minds going on an otherwise uneventful day.
“We rent out the hall for the event,” she added. “Sometimes the pastor (Rev. Steven Herman) and his wife (Mildred) come to the event. Sometimes a guest speaker will show up as well.”
The luncheon is a township and not church event; the church only rents the hall out to Active Adults. Food and activities will be provided by the township for a fee. Cost to attend is $6 and includes Bingo with prizes.
The luncheon is held in the middle of each month, except for July and August, when many people are away on vacation. The date of the May luncheon has yet to be determined.
The Active Adults program provides Mullica Hill residents 55 and older the chance to participate in activities in and around the community.
“We do bus trips, chair yoga and strength training, to name a few,” said Showers. “We also work with the (Mullica Hill) library, where we do a game day and movie day at times.
“The Harrison Township Active Adults Steering Committee (is) always looking to extend a welcome to new members who are looking for the opportunity to stay active and have the opportunity to get out of the house,” notes the Active Adults website.
