Deptford police commemorate officer’s loss

We will never, ever forget.

On Oct. 21, 1999, Corporal Steve Levy, of the Washington Township Police Department, was killed in the line of duty while assigned to the Gloucester County SWAT Team.

Levy and the SWAT team were dispatched to Woodbury for a barricaded person call. Levy entered the home and the barricaded suspect fired a shot through a bedroom door, striking the SWAT Officer. Levy succumbed to his injuries a short time later at a local hospital.

The men and women of the Deptford Township Police Department will forever be grateful to Levy for his sacrifice to the citizens of Gloucester County. Levy’s family, his friends, his WTPD coworkers, and his SWAT teammates, will remain forever in our thoughts.
