Horticultural Society of South Jersey to host Sept. general meeting and container gardening presentation

We are thrilled to announce that our September general meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 13, is planned to be an in-person meeting.
Our location will be a bit different than usual. While it is still in the Cherry Hill Municipal complex at 820 Mercer Street, it will be held in the Council Chambers, room 208. To reach this room, simply drive around the back of the large building where the major parking lot is located.
The entrance is there and well-marked. There is elevator-access by turning left once you pass the metal detectors. Follow the corridor and turn left again and the elevator is down a bit. Because dues are due at this meeting, we encourage those of you who have not paid pay your dues online, at about 6:30 p.m. so you can take care of your dues. If you have paid your dues, you still must sign in. We will be starting promptly at 7 p.m. Guests are welcome, but we do hope you will become a member. The event is free.
Our speaker is Mary Cummings, the director of Gloucester County Certified Gardeners whose presentation is on container gardening. A container garden is where plants, flowers, vegetables, and shrubs are grown in pots rather than directly in the ground. Container gardens and plants in pots have become increasingly popular over the last few years and they are a great option for people with small gardens or balconies. Container gardens also give you more control over the plants’ environment – you can control the soil type and move the container if you need to. In this program she will be discussing the main elements of container gardens and their care and maintenance.
Mary Cummings is a graduate of Penn State University with a degree in Horticulture and Agricultural Education. She began working for Rutgers in 1999 and started and coordinated the Master Gardener program which in 2014 was transitioned to the Gloucester County Certified Gardener Program.
Any questions about the meeting or location, please contact Gwenne Baile either by phone at 856-858-6644 or email her at [email protected].
