Deptford Township council held a public meeting on Feb. 7, for which Township Manager Thomas Newman Jr., Township Clerk Dina Zawadski and a township solicitor were also in attendance.

After winners of the Halloween and Christmas house-decorating contests were announced, three ordinances were adopted to appropriate $200,000 from capital surplus for the acquisition of heavy equipment to be used by public works, and $450,000 from the capital improvement fund to improve that equipment.

The most expensive ordinance adopted will utilize $2,570,000 for the completion of various capital improvements and the purchase of more equipment.

Resolutions passed included exempting real-estate taxes for a disabled veteran and refunding businesses for the overpayment of taxes, including Wells Fargo Real Estate Tax Services. Council also appointed an emergency management coordinator and joint municipal court judge and approved the 2021 annual tax collector report, the 2020 audit report and designated architect services.

Council accepted a donation from Mission BBQ, which also donated to the Deptford police department earlier in the week. Contracts were awarded to Gold Medal Inc. for the collection of trash, recyclable materials and vegetative waste, and R. Moslowski Excavating Inc., for stormwater repair and replacement.

At the end of the meeting, council proclaimed multiple holidays in Deptford this year, including National Purple Heart Day, POW/MIA Day and Gold Star Mothers and Family Day.

The next Deptford council meeting is scheduled for March, with a private work session on Monday, Feb. 28. More details will be posted on deptford-nj.org.
