Release courtesy of Gloucester County:
The Gloucester County Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Senior Services announced that all six congregate nutrition sites are re-opening to senior citizens on Sept. 1.
“The Division of Senior Services staff and volunteers are on the front lines in responding to the increased demand for meals and ensuring food security for vulnerable older adults in our county,” said Commissioner Director Robert M. Damminger.
“This program gives our seniors the opportunity to enjoy a mid-day hot meal while socially engaging with other seniors,” said Commissioner Jim Jefferson.
The nutrition program meal sites are open to any Gloucester County resident over the age of 60 to enjoy a mid-day meal regardless of income. A $1.25 donation is suggested for each meal.
Designed to promote health and well-being, the nutrition sites reduce hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition by providing an RDA of nutrients in a hot meal. As a meeting site for other seniors, they also combat social isolation and provide a safe place to meet other seniors.
