The Garden Club of Marlton will hold its popular annual Holiday Fundraiser and Luncheon on Thursday, Dec. 12, at 11 a.m. at Marco’s at Indian Spring Country Club in Marlton. This year’s event celebrates “The Ugly Christmas Sweater” and attendees are encouraged (but not required) to wear their best ugly Christmas sweater.
More than 120 people are expected to attend this gala event, which is the club’s major fundraiser. The event, which is open to the public, will feature:
• Basket raffle: The raffle will include an anticipated 100 themed baskets, gift cards from local restaurants and other establishments, lottery tickets and more. Tickets are $5 for a sheet of 26 tickets. The basket raffle is the highlight of the annual fundraiser.
• Baked goods table: Cookies, brownies, breads, cupcakes, candy, peppermint bark, chocolate-covered pretzels and other holiday sweets and treats, all lovingly made by club members, will be available for sale.
• Prints of Edna Ryan’s artwork: Ryan, a longtime Garden Club of Marlton supporter, has donated several prints of her artwork to sell at the fundraiser. The 8”x10” or 8”x8” unframed prints, which come in a protective plastic sleeve, will be available for $5 each, with all proceeds going directly to the club.
Due to the popularity of the annual fundraiser, the club recently expanded into the larger ballroom at Indian Spring Country Club so that everyone who wants to attend can. In past year, there was sometimes a waiting list for reservations.
Proceeds will benefit the club’s many civic development projects and fund annual awards given to graduating seniors from Cherokee High School and the Burlington County Institute of Technology. Civic development projects include the Main Street flower pots, Kain Garden, the LeRoy Homer Memorial Harden, The Verna Powell Memorial Butterfly Garden and the John Inskeep House Herb and Flower Gardens.
Cost to attend is $30 per person and includes a three-course luncheon. Entree choices are imperial steak (filet mignon and crab cake) or chicken francaise (battered chicken in lemon-butter sauce). All lunches will be served with chef’s special homemade soup, fresh rolls and butter, vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup and coffee and tea. There will be a cash bar.
