Congregation M’kor Shalom will honor two of its shining lights during the congregation’s Annual M’kor Or Dinner on June 2. An evening to celebrate longtime leaders Gail Donner and Merle Steinberg, “The Magic of M’kor Shalom,” features a cocktail hour, dinner, dessert, music and entertaining “magic.” Music is provided by Michael J. Corman and the magic show features the astonishing magic of Adam Elbaum and Randy Shine.

Donner will receive the prestigious Marylee and Stuart Alperin Leadership Award. M’kor Shalom’s executive director for nearly 20 years who retired in 2013, Donner remains a passionate volunteer whose talents range from webcasting services and editing the synagogue’s newsletter to chairing fundraising and adult education events.

Retiring Educational Director Merle Steinberg will receive the Guiding Light Educator Award. From her start teaching Sunday school in 1988, Steinberg was promoted to assistant educational director in 1993 and took the reins in 2001. In 1995, she led M’kor Shalom’s first congregational trip to Israel. With that success, she started taking confirmation class trips to Israel that have successfully developed Jewish youth engagement. She has since led 33 trips and, upon retiring as education director, will use her talent and experience to launch a new career as a travel agent specializing in Israel trips for the broader South Jersey community.

M’kor Or is a night to see, hear, taste and feel “The Magic of M’kor Shalom.” It takes place at M’kor Shalom, 850 Evesham Road, Cherry Hill, NJ. Starting at 5 p.m., the evening will kick off with a cocktail hour followed by dinner and dessert, the music of Michael J. Corman and a magic show featuring Adam Elbaum and Randy Shine.
