MoorArts to host celebration of art

On Saturday, Jan. 26 from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m., MoorArts will host “An Evening of Fine and Performing Arts” at the Moorestown Community House.

Every two years, MoorArts puts on a high-end evening of fine and performing arts. The goal is a simple one: to bring the community together for an evening dedicated to and in celebration of the arts.

On Saturday, Jan. 26 from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m., MoorArts will host “An Evening of Fine and Performing Arts” at the Moorestown Community House. The proceeds from the gala will benefit the mission and initiatives of MoorArts, including arts-based teacher grants, student scholarships and community arts events.

The gala will feature a mix of live entertainment, including pop/rock performances, musical theater and stand-up comedy. A variety of artwork will also be on display in the community house’s library. More than 25 artists have contributed pieces that will be available for purchase.

Andrea Seuren, vice president of MoorArts, said they wanted to feature high-quality performers this year. All of the performers have a personal connection to the Moorestown arts community, Seuren said.

“All these folks donate their time because they believe in the cause,” Seuren said.

Two of the performers, CORii (Courtney Halpin) and Andrew Moorer are former MoorArts scholarship winners who are pursuing music careers. Erica and Greg Harr lead Moorestown High School’s theater department, and comedian Dena Blizzard is a resident with students in the local school system. Marc G. Dalio has directed two summer musicals for MoorArts.

“The caliber of performers is like sitting in a Broadway theater,” Seuren said.

Harpist Laura DiShong will perform in the library where the art is on display. Seuren said attendees can preview the pieces online prior to the event. MoorArts will receive a portion of the sales.

A curated selection of student artwork from Moorestown High School’s Advanced Placement art class will also be on display, as well as an exhibit by the Taline King Foundation.

Since its 2013 inception, the gala is the largest fundraiser MoorArts holds. Seuren said there is no fundraising goal for the evening. The only goal is top what they’ve done in previous years and have enough to finance their upcoming projects.

Seuren said they try to build suspense by making the event biannual, and thus far, the tactic is working. She said they often get inquiries from people about when the event is coming up.

Seuren said she’s working with the performers to ensure their music caterers to a wide demographic.

Tickets are $100 and available online at www.MoorArts.org.
