Christmas tree collection begins in January

Public works will be collecting trees throughout the month.

Although many of us wish we could hold on to our Christmas decorations for another month, if you have a natural tree in your home it’s best to get rid of it as early in the month of January as possible.

According to the National Fire Protection Association, a number of different factors contribute to increased risk of fire during winter months. Among these risk factors are old Christmas trees. The NFPA suggests getting rid of your tree shortly after Christmas, or as soon as it starts drying out.

According to Burlington Township’s homepage, Christmas trees are being collected curbside on a daily basis until the end of January. The township asks that residents leave their tree at the curb line so that public works can pick them up as they make their way through your neighborhood. If you place your tree on the curb in the beginning of February, it will be collected with normal branch collection.

Any questions can be directed to the Public Works Office at (609) 239–5909.
