As a fun, creative, and interactive way to support and benefit the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), the Gloucester County Institute of Technology Culinary Arts Department, in association with the FCCLA, presented a Food Festival at GCIT.

“The FCCLA is an amazing organization that provides students with an opportunity to promote personal growth and leadership development through family and consumer sciences education while preparing for transition into adult life,” said Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger. “The FCCLA gives many students a smooth transition into a new chapter of their life.”

The event included a variety of student-run competitions including cake decorating, cupcake decorating and a luncheon showcase. The event also featured a food truck contest in which culinary students designed food trucks and created an interesting food to go with it that attendees could then sample.

“Around 400 tickets were sold for the event,” Freeholder Frank J. DiMarco, liaison to the department of parks. “All the proceeds will go to the FCCLA and will be put toward providing students in our county with varying opportunities for personal development. The FCCLA is the only in-school student organization with the family as its central focus, and by helping them by raising money, we are helping students within our county grow, learn and prepare for adult life while keeping the importance of family in mind.”

In addition to the student-run events and cuisine, ticket holders had the opportunity to sample local food vendors and their favorite new menu items from participating Gloucester County restaurants such as Anthony’s Fine Italian Cuisine, Arctic Wolf Spring Water, Auletto Caterers, Blue Plate, Carolina Blue Smokehouse and Taproom, Fat Louie’s, Filomena Lakeview, Rastelli’s Market Fresh, Ry’s Bagels, ShopRite and Wegmans Food Markets.
