Mantua Boy Scouts always looking for interested residents
Many people do not know about Mantua Boy Scout Troop 7083. I have been involved in scouting since the first-grade. Our troop has grown to more than 50 scouts, including seven Eagle Scouts, and many are currently working toward the Eagle Scout rank.
Our troop serves the community in many ways, including participating in the Memorial Day and July 4 parades, honoring veterans graves and serving veterans’ organizations, Christmas caroling for seniors, serving at area food banks, running Thanksgiving “Scouting for Food” drives, as well as other various community service projects.
Our troop also goes on exciting camping trips and outings. In the past, we have gone whitewater rafting, to the Dover Raceway, a sportsman club shooting range and a Washington, D.C. tour. In the winter, we do a special outing called the Klondike Derby in which our troop competes against other troops pulling a sled with supplies on it do certain tasks to earn points.
Troop 7083 has won the Klondike Derby twice. Troop 7083 is the place to be if you want to learn valuable life skills and have fun with your friends! I hope you feel enlightened about our troop and maybe now want to join. You can check us out at our troop meetings on Monday nights (except for holidays) at Mantua VFW Post 7679, 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., September through May or at www.mantuatroop7083.org.
