Officers conducted several hundred motor vehicle stop in April as a part of state campaign
The Burlington Township Police Department recently participated in the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety 2018 Distracted Driving Crackdown “U Drive, U Text, U Pay,” Public Safety Director Bruce Painter.
Between April 1 and April 21 officers dedicated 120 hours of patrol time to this initiative on top of the normal departmental patrol shifts. The officers conducted several hundred motor vehicle stops, which resulted in two DWI arrests, one narcotics arrest, eight warrant arrests, and 453 motor vehicle summonses. The following is the breakdown of summonses issued:
· 82 cell phone summonses
· 8 speeding summonses
· 23 suspended driver summonses
· 2 reckless driving summonses
· 7 careless driving summonses
· 29 seat belt and child restraint summonses
· 302 other summonses
Director Painter credited all the men and women of the Burlington Township Police Department for making this initiative so successful and for making Burlington Township a safe community. Whereas the operational period for this initiative has ended, the Burlington Township Police Department said it remains committed to improving the safety of our roadways by aggressively enforcing distracted driving.
