Moorestown school district bringing ‘innovation’ to 2017–2018 school year

The 2017–2018 school year is about making these smaller scale changes now that will contribute to larger scale changes in the future, said superintendent of the Moorestown School District Scott McCartney. The first day of school is on Tuesday, Sept. 5, and it brings updates to curriculum, infrastructure and an emphasis on students’ emotional wellness. McCartney said this year marks a shift in district-wide innovation. Last year, the emphasis was on how to get technology into the classrooms. Through the district’s one-to-one initiative, every student in sixth through 12th grade is assigned a laptop for school use they can also take home with them each day.

MHS blood drive surpasses goal as locals spurred by Hurricane Harvey to give back

Moorestown High School’s Interact Club’s blood drive took on a new meaning as a steady influx of willing donors came to offer their time and blood with Hurricane Harvey acting as the impetus to lend a hand for several in attendance at the event held in the high school’s cafeteria on Tuesday, Aug. 29. Interact Club advisor Elizabeth Everette, an English teacher at MHS, said the goal was to raise 30 pints of blood, but with donation signup slots filled nearly the entirety of the day, the club’s goal was easily surpassed, with the American Red Cross collecting 47 pints.

Raising the roof debate

A pair of roof-related items on Moorestown Township Council’s agenda had residents questioning council about overages, fees and contractors during the Monday, Aug. 28 meeting in town hall.

A consent agenda resolution approving contract change orders for the improvements to Wesley Bishop Hockey rink totalling $39,677.72 and an ordinance authorizing $865,500 in bonds to replace roofs on the Department of Public Works buildings and Sewer Treatment plant were the catalysts for some debate.
