Evesham Police announce ‘Sweets for Safety’ program to reward kids practicing bike helmet safety

Officers will “ticket” kids observed wearing their helmets, with tickets redeemable for a treat at Randolph’s Bakery.

The Evesham Township Police Department has announced a community partnership with local businesses Randolph’s Bakery of Marlton for the department’s newest “Sweets for Safety” community partnership program.

To help the department encourage safe riding, officers from the Evesham Township Police Department will be issuing “tickets” to kids observed wearing their helmets while riding their bicycles.

This will also apply to those wearing helmets who ride scooters, skates and skateboards.

The tickets will be redeemable for a free cookie, donut, or cupcake at Randolph’s Bakery.

According to Evesham Police, head trauma is one of the leading causes of serious injury and death among youth in the United Sates, and the department believes that not only will this program help lower the risk of injury to local youth but will also help the agency promote a positive relationship with residents.

This program will run from Saturday, May 20, through Oct. 31.

The department will be holding an event at Randolph’s Bakery on Saturday, May 20, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. to kick off this program.

All are welcome to come out for some sweet treats.

Attendees will have the opportunity to meet with officers and register their bikes.

The bike registry helps officers quickly return found bikes to the rightful owner. The department will also have officers on location who are certified to conduct child seat inspections.
