Weekly Roundup: Evesham BOE votes on budget, Youth Advisory Committee holds Mock Council Meeting

This week Evesham’s Board of Education approved its final 2017–2018 school year budget, the Evesham Youth Advisory Committee held a Mock Council Meeting and Evesham Police arrested a lewdness suspect on charges on endangering the welfare of a child. Evesham BOE adopts budget, funds half of requirement for School Resource Officer program

Evesham’s Board of Education approved its final 2017–2018 school year budget at this week’s meeting, and included within that budget was a $250,000 allocation toward the district’s School Resource Officer program for next year. The board ultimately decided to include the $250,000 to meet the township halfway on the program, in hopes the money would be enough to convince the township to allow the program to continue in some capacity.

Evesham Police arrest and charge lewdness suspect with endangering the welfare of a child

The following information is on file with the Evesham Township Police Department:

On May 2, the Evesham Police Department charged a Shamong man with endangering the welfare of a child and lewdness. According to Evesham Police, their investigation determined the suspect was allegedly the male involved in a Dec. 30 lewdness incident in Evesham Township. Evesham Police say they charged the male with third-degree endangering the welfare of a child and a disorderly person offense for lewdness.

Evesham Youth Advisory Committee holds Mock Council Meeting

Evesham’s Youth Advisory Committee got a lesson in leadership and the workings of municipal government last week when the group held its annual “Mock Council Meeting.” Officers of the Youth Advisory Committee sat upon the same dais where Evesham Council sits in the township municipal complex as they played the roles of council members for the fictional town of Hillsdale, which was described as similar in size and demographics to Evesham Township.

Evesham Township Police Department announces roadside DWI checkpoints

Evesham Police Chief Christopher Chew and the Evesham Police Department announce the department’s intention to use the full effects of roadside checkpoints this spring/summer season in the enforcement of intoxicated/impaired drivers. According to police, Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) is a serious violation of state law and is taken very seriously by the entire Evesham Police Department.
