Students from DECA were named finalists in the international conference held last week, which one placing second in the world. Two Washington Township police officers received their motorcycle certification, while educators, present and future, prepare for the “unconference” event scheduled for May 13. DECA students place as finalists at International Career and Development Conference

For the first time in more than a decade, Washington Township High School had more than one student honored as a finalist at the International Career and Development Conference held in Anaheim, Calif. This year was also the first time the school has had a student place as a winner, with Washington Township High School senior Frank Romean placing second in the world. Romean earned a silver ribbon for top test and top role-play. Sophomore partners Kade Cornelius and Taylor Crowley finished as finalists in the marketing management team decision-making competition.

Washington Township police officer assaulted at DMV

Washington Township Police Officer Allen Franchi was working an extra duty assignment at the Division of Motor Vehicles on April 18, when he was assaulted by a 30-year-old, male, from Hammonton. The assailant was processed on numerous charges including aggravated assault, resisting arrest and possession of a controlled dangerous substance. He was released pending court.

Two Washington Township police officers receive motorcycle certification

Two Washington Township police officers are hitting the road on two wheels after successfully completing motorcycle certification training. Along with patrol duties, the officers will participate in public relations campaigns as well. According to Chief of Police Patrick Gurcsik, the department already had two Harley Davidson motorcycles parked in the garage not being utilized. After having them serviced, the two officers, Lawrence Achey and Steven Pinnelli, attended the training course, held in Warrington, Pa., in April. The department has five officers certified to ride motorcycles.

Educational “unconference” to be held May 13

Washington Township High School will host a new style of educational workshops on Saturday, May 13, where attendees create the schedule, topics and format on the spot. The free “unconference,” known as EdCamp Happy Camper, will be held in the nine-10 cafeteria from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is open to all teachers, administrators, Board of Education members, educational aides, college professors and college students who are interested in joining the educational field.

The Rothman Institute to occupy space in Washington Square Town Center

Markeim Chalmers, Inc., a leading commercial real estate, appraisal and property management firm in the Philadelphia Metropolitan Area, negotiated a long term lease for The Rothman Institute to occupy 20,000 square feet of the new 40,000 square foot medical office building at Washington Square Town Center. Located between Virtua Wellness Center and Kennedy Hospital, the two-story state-of-the-art building anchored by The Rothman Institute will be delivered by January 2018.

WTHS softball player joins 100-hit club

Washington Township High School senior Erika Coreth notched the 100th hit of her varsity softball career during a 5–0 Minutemaids victory over Bishop Eustace on Wednesday, May 3. She became the 15th player in school history to join the 100-hit club.
