Weekly Roundup: Mayor and BOE members named in defamation lawsuit; Chickie’s and Pete’s heads to Marlton

Evesham Township, mayor and BOE members named by school official in expanded defamation lawsuit

Richard Dantinne Jr., director of personnel for the Evesham Township School District, has named Mayor Randy Brown, Evesham Township and three members of the Evesham Township Board of Education in a defamation lawsuit.

According to the lawsuit, Dantinne faces the prospect of losing employment and being unemployable “due to the stain on his character created by Brown.”

The lawsuit comes after comments made at a recent news conference Brown held on Jan. 12, where Brown alleged female employees of the district had accused Dantinne of sexual harassment.

Chickie’s & Pete’s coming to former Champps site on Route 73 in Marlton

Officials announced this week that well-known Philadelphia-area sports-bar Chickie’s & Pete’s plans to open its newest location at the former Champps site at Marlton Crossing Shopping Center on Route 73. Pete Ciarrocchi Jr., owner of Chickie’s and Pete’s, was on hand at the site to announce his restaurant’s new location, which would be his fifth stand-alone site in New Jersey, not counting those along the boardwalks.

Calls for Evesham BOE members to resign; future of Evans Elementary undecided at latest BOE meeting

The issue of whether to reverse closing Evans Elementary School was once again up for a vote at the latest Evesham Board of Education meeting, but no final decision was made, as a majority of the board voted to table the discussion until newer board members had more time to review relevant information.

During the meeting multiple teachers and residents also called for the resignation of BOE vice president Sandy Student and board members Nichole Stone and William McGoey for their role in attending a controversial news conference held by Mayor Randy Brown on Jan. 12.

Lenape Regional High School District pleased with decision to eliminate final exams several years ago

The Lenape Regional High School District got rid of final exams after the conclusion of the 2014–2015 school year. Almost two years later, it does not regret doing so.

The district superintendent credits the district’s successful transition from final exams to progress assessments to the deliberate and thoughtful process followed by all involved and that was guided by the district’s long range plan.
