Shoppers at the Walmart on Mount Holly Road detained a thief until police arrived

On Thursday, Jan. 5 at approximately 7:09 p.m., the Burlington Township Police Department responded to the Walmart located at 2106 Mount Holly Road in Burlington, NJ for a report of a female breaking into a customer’s vehicle.

Upon arrival, officers discovered that Patricia Buckley, a 30-year-old female from Delran, stole a woman’s purse from her cart while she was shopping. Buckley then exited the store, located the victim’s vehicle, and used the keys she obtained from the purse to gain access. When the victim discovered her purse was missing, she exited the store and found Buckley rummaging through her vehicle looking for additional items to steal. Buckley attempted to flee on foot before some good Samaritans came to the victim’s aid and helped detain Buckley until police arrival.

Buckley was arrested and charged with theft and burglary to a motor vehicle. She is currently lodged in jail pending her initial appearance in court.

The BTPD would like to acknowledge the noble efforts of those good Samaritans that assisted the victim in this case. Unfortunately, they left prior to us being able to identify them. The BTPD would also like to take this opportunity to remind the community to closely watch your belongings while shopping.

Anybody who can aid in the identification of our good Samaritans is requested to contact P/O Jarrod Broadway at 609–386–2019 or jbroadway98@burltwppd.com or Det. Mike Casella at 609–239–4486 or mcasella90@burltwppd.com.
