A Willingboro man has pleaded guilty to charges related to a Cherry Hill home invasion in 2012 according to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office.
Demetrius Murphy, 29, pleaded guilty on Monday to first-degree armed robbery and second-degree kidnapping in connection with a Cherry Hill home invasion that took place in February 2012.
Murphy and two other assailants forcibly entered a home and held an elderly female victim captive for four hours while they ransacked the home for jewelry and cash. When the victim’s husband arrived home, he was also held captive and forced to surrender cash and jewelry from a safe. After restraining the victims with zip-ties, the three robbers fled with nearly $500,000 worth of cash and jewelry.
The victims owned and operated a jewelry store in the Cherry Hill area. Investigators identified at least two of the robbers after the trio traveled to New York City and sold thousands of dollars of the victims’ jewelry for pennies on the dollar.
Murphy is facing 11 years of imprisonment with a minimum of nine years to be served before parole eligibility. He will begin to serve the sentence after he completes serving at least 12 and a half years of a 15-year sentence he received on an unrelated home invasion.
Murphy’s sentencing is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 12.
