As the South Jersey Pops continues its search for a new music director, guest conductor Robert Bradshaw takes the baton for the 60-piece orchestra’s fall concert, “Symphony for the Heroes.” The performance, Oct. 30 at Lenape High School, will pay tribute to champions of the American ideal, and anyone throughout the world who’s risen up when the stakes were high to make a difference.
Bradshaw is the founder and director of the Haddonfield School of Music, and has been directing musical ensembles for 15 years. In addition to his performances with the South Jersey Pops Orchestra, Bradshaw has performed as a violinist with numerous orchestras and ensembles at venues such as Carnegie Hall, The Kimmel Center in Philadelphia, Lincoln Center in New York, EPCOT Center in Walt Disney World, Universal Studios in Orlando, The Wells Fargo Center and The Spectrum.
“We’re excited to have Robert as the first of our interim conductors as we seek a permanent musical steward for the orchestra,” says South Jersey Pops President Christian Stebbins. “He’ll bring his talent to bear on what promises to be a terrific, inspirational concert. This is the soundtrack for our heroes. This is their symphony.”
The South Jersey Pops music director position was left vacant after the departure of Robert Schiavinato in May, after four years at the orchestra’s helm. The Pops is looking for a successor who, among other qualities, has a passion for live music and keeping orchestral music performance relevant to modern audiences. Eight or more years’ conducting experience is preferred, as is the ability to instruct and guide musicians of varying musical talent.
“Our ideal candidate will also serve as a mentor and coach to our young, up-and-coming conductors,” says Stebbins.
Those interested in applying should contact Stebbins or submit a resume and cover letter to [email protected]. Application deadline is Dec. 1, 2016. To learn more, go towww.southjerseypops.org/news/.
