Best known for her role as Thelma Evans-Anderson, the middle child and only daughter of Florida and James Evans Sr., on the CBS sitcom “Good Times” (1974 to 1979), Bern Nadette Stanis, actress, author and spokesperson, will kick-off BCC’s African American History Month events on Thursday, Feb. 5. She will be joined by guest vocalist, singer/songwriter Chelsea Balentine, who has performed on the BET’s Celebration of Gospel, the Apollo, The Stellar Awards and stages across the world.

The event starts at 6 p.m. at the Enterprise Center at BCC, located at the college’s Mount Laurel campus, 3331 Route 38. Tickets are $10 per person or $5 for BCC students and children 12 and younger. To purchase tickets, please visit bcc.edu/event/2015-opening-day-speaker.

Originally from Brooklyn, New York, Stanis graduated from The Julliard School of Performing Arts. She serves as a national spokesperson for the Alzheimer’s Association and will soon be releasing her latest book, “The Last Night: A Caregivers Journey,” profiling her experience as a caregiver after her mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. She has authored two previous books, “Situations 101: Relationships, The Good, The Bad & The Ugly” and “Situations 101: Finances, The Good, The Bad & The Ugly,” and a collection of poetry, “For Men Only.”

Following the event, Stanis will sign copies of her books.
