The Mt. Laurel Schools Board of Education met last evening to discuss agenda items, including the budget schedule.
The district is awaiting state aid figures. Those numbers are expected to be released tomorrow.
Yesterday, Gov. Christie announced that school aid would increase by $250 million for next year. Last year, Christie drastically cut school aid for most districts in the state.
“Today, because of the hard and necessary choices we have made, I am pleased to report we are able to provide an increase of $250 million in school aid,” he said. “This will allow every district in the state to receive increased aid.”
Assistant Superintendent for Business Robert Wachter said the Governor’s message on the budget seemed positive, but the district is waiting to see how much aid it will receive.
Wachter said the board continues to have ongoing discussions on the budget and will hold a public hearing on March 29. Residents are invited to share their thoughts on the budget at that time.
Wachter also said school officials are in the process of scheduling budget talks with individual school’s Parent Teacher Organizations. Stay tuned for the dates and times of the upcoming meetings.
