This upcoming November, the Delran Fire Department will be hosting a series of community events and fundraisers to get residents out for a few days of fun. While the Delran Fire Department is a place to call for help, it also wants to be a place where the community can feel included.
According to firefighter Donna Lynn, each year the fire department holds more events. The community has had an overwhelmingly positive response to the events and each month, more parents and children come out to experience the fun.
The first event the fire department will be holding will come on Saturday, Nov. 2 at Delran Fire House #2 located at 1020 S Chester Ave. A Murder Mystery presented by Without a Cue Productions is a show, dinner and fundraiser where the audience will watch skits before being tasked with figuring out which actor is the murderer.
A snippet of the show reads: “Ever since the Moulin Rouge opened down the street, the Moulin Bleu has seen nothing but a decline in business. The can-can dancers are leaving in droves, they can’t get bohemian painters through the door with promises of free drinks and even the half decent mimes won’t work for the Bleu. The owners of the club, Monsieur and Mademoiselle Ennul, are desperate to find a solution to their problem, but the business simply doesn’t have the collateral to merit a loan. When they do come up with a plan, it is more than a little disreputable and the repercussions could be deadly.”

“For events like the Murder Mystery, I think it’s fun,” said Lynn. “I think it brings the morale up and I think in a small town you have to do things like that. It brings people together. It also allows for community (members) to build camaraderie between themselves and the fire department.”
The second and third events of the month will take place on Nov. 8 and Nov. 24. On Nov. 8, the Delran Fire Department will be holding its Gift Card Bingo Night at 6 p.m. at the Delran Fire House. Instead of winning money, participants will win gift cards to various stores and businesses. On Nov. 24, the fire department will host its vendors and craft show between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
“We put on these events because we like to do things for the community,” said Lynn. “We do these functions to really give back, whether that’s our free candy bingo nights or giving a gift to a needy family around the holidays. All of the money we raise goes back into the community. If we hear that a family is in need, we’ll help them. Or we’ll bring food to the guys when they’re out on a big fire to keep them hydrated. We try to fit in where we can.
“I honestly really like being with the people in the community,” said Lynn. “I think it’s fun, like the craft show is one of my favorite things. There’s so many talented people in the community and it gives them a chance to show off their talent.”
While the Delran Fire Department is just starting off with these three events this November, Lynn and her team are constantly looking to add more. Lynn has already planned out events for Christmas, Mother’s Day and Easter, as well as Halloween 2020.
