In response to the announcement that Planned Parenthood affiliates in New Jersey will withdraw from the federal Title X program, Assembly Majority Leader Lou Greenwald released the following statement:
“Every day, thousands of women visit Planned Parenthood and other healthcare facilities to receive quality care and the best information for them to make decisions about their health. Under the Trump administration’s gag rule on Title X, it would be impossible for Planned Parenthood to deliver the same standard of care to patients.
“In refusing to abide by this unethical and unwarranted gag rule, Planned Parenthood is sending a clear message that it will not be bullied into taking away a woman’s right to make informed choices about her health. Planned Parenthood provides a multitude of services, including cancer screenings, well-woman exams and infertility care, which contribute to the overall health and wellbeing of women across New Jersey. It’s critical that these organizations continue providing these essential services without senseless restrictions from the federal government.
“I applaud Planned Parenthood for reinforcing their commitment to women’s healthcare, and refusing to back down when faced with an enormous challenge.”
