Local students recently participated in an effort to support American soldiers stationed around the world through a letter writing campaign organized by Assemblywoman Carol Murphy. Children in schools throughout Burlington County were educated on the importance of America’s service members and encouraged to write general letters to overseas troops.
Assemblywoman Murphy’s office coordinated the “any service member mail” efforts so that soldiers without someone back home could still receive letters to brighten their day. A total of 781 student letters have been collected and will be given to the non-profit organization American Recreational Military Services to be distributed overseas.
“The children in our district are really helping to put a smile on soldiers’ faces with their letters,” said Assemblywoman Murphy. “A service member stationed overseas will appreciate these positive hand-written letters more than we could ever know. I’m proud of our students’ enthusiasm and willingness to show their support.”
“Without the bravery of every man and woman who continue to serve our country, we as Americans could not enjoy the freedoms we have today,” said Ronnie Micciulla, Founder & Executive Director of ARMS. “The countless heartfelt letters we’ve received from students across New Jersey are going to be a great surprise for our troops deployed abroad. Thank you to Assemblywoman Murphy for her hard work in helping us fulfill our mission to honor, support and show appreciation for our military.”
