The New Jersey Department of Education has awarded the Mantua Township School District $1.6 million dollars for preschool education expansion beginning this school year.

The funding received for preschool education expansion will allow the Mantua Township School District to convert their partial-day program into a full-day program starting in early winter of this year at no cost to families or the local tax levy. Current preschool families will also receive a full refund for this year’s tuition payments.

Additional information about the timeline for reimbursements, implementation start date and the potential to add transportation will be made available when all details are finalized.

Preschool program eligibility requirements state that prospective students must be 4 years of age by Oct. 1 (of the school year they’re enrolling in) and they must be current residents of Mantua Township.

“Implementing a tuition-free full-day pre-k program is a monumental step forward for the students and families of Mantua Township,” said Dr. Robert Fisicaro, Superintendent of Mantua Township School District. “This state initiative will not only help us change the learning trajectory for all future students, but it will also have a positive fiscal impact on the entire district in future years,”

The school district is planning to host an information session soon to inform current and prospective families about the changes coming to their preschool education program.
