Dear Mayor Scirrotto,
[On May 28] I attended the parade and ceremony at the municipal building. The ceremony itself was wonderful and the speakers did an excellent job reminding us of what Memorial Day is all about. I especially enjoyed the effort to include the children on decorated bikes, and, of course, the Clearview Regional High School Band. However, I was sorely disappointed that you failed to recognize the Mantua Fire Department in your accolades. Our fire department does a wonderful job protecting our lives and property every day, (even leaving the parade briefly to answer a call). More importantly, there were young men there who are currently attending fire school with the goal to become full fledged firefighters. This is no easy task as it requires many hours, study, physical ability, courage and dedication. They needed to be recognized and thanked for their service.
I think an apology is in order and perhaps a news article spotlighting the fire department and what it takes to become a firefighter.

In my opinion, Memorial Day should never have been moved up early just so our do nothing politicians in Washington can have a three-day weekend. All holidays should be celebrated whatever day of the week they occur. It is that simple. The only holidays they couldn’t change were the Fourth of July, Christmas Day and New Years Day.
