Burlington County warns against phone scammers falsely claiming to represent Sheriff’s Department

Officials say these scammers are calling victims from what appears to be a phone number used by the Burlington County Sheriff’s Department and threatening arrest unless payment is rendered.

According to Burlington County officials, there has recently been an increase in phone scams in Burlington County.

Officials say these scammers are calling victims from what appears to be a phone number used by the Burlington County Sheriff’s Department and threatening the victim with arrest.

Officials say the scammer will state they are a deputy with the Sheriff’s Department and will then try and get the victim to pay off the warrant using gift cards or other sources.

Burlington County officials are warning residents against these scammers and reminding residents that Burlington County Sheriff’s Department and local law enforcement will never contact a resident in such a manner and these local law enforcement agencies do not solicit payments through the phone.

If any resident receives a call of this nature, they are asked to call the Burlington County Sheriff’s Department Special Investigations Unit at (609) 265-5504.
