Obituary: Dorothy Mae Blair

Dorothy Mae Blair was born on May 31, 1925 and died April 2, 2019 at the age of 93. The following is her self-written obituary.

Today April 2, 2019, I am still Dorothy Mae Blair. I was born in Swampoodle, North Philadelphia in a back bedroom on 28th and Lehigh Ave. My mom told me the beautiful, white Catalpa blooms appeared every year on my birthday. I had a super education thanks to Simon Gratz High School. We had  dedicated teachers and smart student friendships. In a nutshell, I was married to Luther Burton Blair and had two sons William Burton Blair and Charles Thomas Blair. I was blessed with a small but unbelievably loving family:  mother, mom-mom and two uncles, Thomas Staller Edwards and The Reverend William I. Edwards, both living saints and a loving mother.

I am survived by one son: Charles Thomas Blair; three grandchildren: Charles Thomas Blair Jr., Andrea Ali and William Barger; seven great-grandchildren: Isabel, Christian, Mohamed, Mariam, Jamie, and Michael and great great-granddaughter Lily. I was pre-deaseced by my son William Blair and my granddaughter Jenny Walter.

My interest thru life were mainly my Anglo-Catholic upbringing, church, friendships, my career of 43 years with Philadelphia Housing Authority, animals, art, theatre, movies, crossword puzzles, travel, home decorating, collecting treasurers of beauty and my house in Brigantine.

I leave this earth with so much unfinished business as I took care of my family as my top priority. Never got the chance to write my “book.” Really!!

A funeral service will take place on Monday, April 8 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church at  207 W. Main St. in Moorestown. A viewing will take palce on Monday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Lewis Funeral Home on E. Main St. Moorestown, NJ. Interment will be private. Please, absolutely no flowers.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Popcorn Zoo in Forked River, the Animal Welfare Assoc. in Voorhees or Trinity Episcopal Church of Moorestown.
