Rowan University athletics honored 272 student-athletes at its annual Student-Athlete Day on Monday, AprilĀ 3.
Rowan University athletics honored 272 student-athletes at its annual Student-Athlete Day on Monday, April 3. The presentation was held in the Eynon Ballroom in the Chamberlain StudentĀ Center.
Rowan recognized these individuals because they achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. This year, 147 student-athletes accumulated a GPA of 3.4 or higher and 125 had a GPA between 3.0 andĀ 3.39.
Cinnaminson native Melissa Tarte, a junior Psychology major and basketball player at the university, was among those recognized.
The Profs also inducted 32 student-athletes into the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society. Chi Alpha Sigma recognizes student-athletes from all divisions who maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.40 or higher throughout their junior and senior years. The Society emphasizes the values associated with participation in intercollegiate athletics including good citizenship, moral character and friendship among the high academic achievers in college athletics.
Several teams that earned academic awards in the past year were recognized. The honorees included menās and womenās swimming and diving, College Swim Coaches Association of America Scholar All-America Teams; softball, National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Academic Team; womenās lacrosse, Intercollegiate Womenās Lacrosse Coaches Association Academic Honor Squad; menās and womenās cross country and womenās track & field, United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Teams; and field hockey, National Field Hockey Coaches Association National AcademicĀ Team.
The student-athletes at the University compete in 18 sports at the NCAA Division IIIĀ level.
