Rowan professor visits with WTHS Chorale

The musical group will be performing for the public in the coming weeks

Visiting professor Christopher Thomas leads the WTHS Chorale during practice for an upcoming performance of Vivaldi’s “Gloria”.

Members of the Washington Township High School Chorale benefitted from the input of Rowan University Associate Professor Christopher Thomas, who stopped by during their rehearsal of Vivaldi’s “Gloria” on Nov. 21. The Chorale is performing this major Baroque work, along with the WTHS Chamber Orchestra, at their concerts in the coming weeks.

“My students had a wonderful time performing for Dr. Thomas, while receiving his advice on how to refine and elevate their musicianship,” said Chorale director and WTHS music teacher Joe Zachowski.

The group will perform Vivaldi’s “Gloria” at the Chorus/Wind Ensemble concert on Dec. 12, and the Orchestra/Guitar concert on Dec. 20. Both concerts are slated for 7:30 p.m. in the school’s Investors Bank Performing Arts Center.

Thomas is an associate professor, director of choral activities and chair of the department of music at Rowan University. In his role as director of choral activities, he oversees four curricular choirs and personally conducts the Rowan University Concert Choir, Voces Early Music Ensemble, and teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in choral conducting and choral literature.
