Three MVC employees will be recognized for their efforts with Citations of Merit and challenge coins
The Washington Township Police Department plans to recognize three Department of Motor Vehicles employees who stepped in to aid an officer being assaulted in April.
On April 18, Officer Allen Franchi was working an extra duty detail at the Department of Motor Vehicles when he was advised there was some sort of altercation in the parking lot. He proceeded outside and observed multiple subjects in a verbal altercation and witnessed an individual aggravated and yelling at a child. At the time, Franchi requested additional units for back up.
When Franchi addressed the individual, the subject pushed him. The subject refused to comply when told he was under arrest, and clenched his fists. He attacked Franchi by trying to take him to the ground, punching him, choking him and saying he was going to kill him. Franchi again radioed for additional units.
Three employees from the MVC came to the officer’s aid by helping to grab control of the subject, get him to the ground and handcuff him.
The employees will be recognized with Citations of Merit and police department Challenge Coins. These coins are awarded to civilians on rare occasions to recognize excellence in law enforcement cooperation between civilians and the police.
