Important tax information for Washington Township senior citizens

I was pleased to be able to visit the Washington Township Senior Citizen Center last Thursday to present some information regarding the Shop Washington Township Program. I enjoyed spending time there and learning a little bit more about the center and some of the activities the seniors enjoy taking part in. After presenting the information regarding the Shop Washington Township Program, there was a great question asked by one of the seniors. He wanted to know, “if seniors who had property tax reimbursement (more commonly known as the “senior freeze”), could also receive the tax rebates from the Shop Washington Township Program?” I was able to speak with our Tax Collector Robin Sarlo and she confirmed seniors who currently have property tax reimbursement are still eligible to receive tax rebates through the Shop Washington Township Program. I believe this program is really going to help the taxpayers of Washington Township save some money in the long run.

Shop Washington Township Launch Party

I am happy to report many residents have been stopping into the Municipal Building to pick up their Shop Washington Township cards. If you were unaware, you can stop into the Municipal Building to pick up more cards for family members. We have stationed the cards and instruction sheets on how to register in every department. Residents will also be receiving one card in the mail, along with their Washington Township calendars, so be sure to keep a look out for those! Also, on Feb. 3, from 10 a.m. to noon, our sponsor Republic Bank will be hosting a Shop Washington Township Launch Party at their Ganttown Road branch in Washington Township. All residents and business owners are welcome to attend and learn about the program. We hope to see you all there!

Helping Hands 23rd annual Super Bowl Hoagie Sale

On Feb. 4, I will be joining the COW Project and the Future Acts middle school organizations with assembling hoagies for the 23rd annual Helping Hands Hoagie Sale. The proceeds will benefit families of Washington Township who are currently experiencing financial hardships. Last year alone, this wonderful cause brought in more than $50,000. This fundraiser continues to grow bigger every year and we are hoping this year is the greatest donation year yet. There will be more than 300 student and adult volunteers ready to arrive at 6 a.m. on Super Bowl Sunday to make the two-foot party hoagies. The orders can be picked up between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Washington Township High School Ganttown Road entrance. For information on how to donate and order your hoagies, please visit the COW Project’s website at www.thecowproject.org/2018-hoagie-sale. This fundraiser is the largest community event in Washington Township each year, so please do not miss your opportunity to make a difference in others’ lives.
