Washington Township officer hospitalized after routine call

On June 7 at approximately 4 a.m. Sgt. Michael Ferris was responding to a motor vehicle crash at the five points intersection in Deptford. As Sgt. Ferris arrived on location a second crash occurred involving a box truck and a utility pole. The crash propelled the pole into Sgt. Ferris’ vehicle. He exited the vehicle and while attempting to reenter his vehicle was electrocuted. He also suffered a laceration to his face due to airbag deployment. Sgt. Ferris was taken to Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia to be treated. He is in stable condition, conscious & alert and is expected to be released this morning.

Both crashes are being investigated by Deptford Township Police Department.
