Opportunity for early literacy learning at Margaret E. Heggan Library

The library offers a variety of social events highlighting literacy in infants and toddlers.

Children develop early language and literacy skills in the first three years of life. A child’s earliest experiences with books, sounds and stories are the building blocks for language and reading development. Infants and toddlers develop oral language, phonemic awareness, and pre-literacy skills every day.

The Margaret E. Heggan Free Public Library offers programs for infants and toddlers, which provide a fun environment for developing early literacy and social skills. Children of any age can get a library card.

Baby Time Rhymes is offered on Mondays and Thursdays for children ages six months to 23 months. Babies are exposed to nursery rhymes, songs, and books in a social environment.

Two year olds can experience stories, songs and rhymes during Toddler Time, which is also offered on Mondays and Thursdays.

Block Party is a time for one to three year olds to socialize and build with a variety of blocks. This program is usually offered once each month.

Music and rhythm are explored during Lots of Tots, a program designed for six to 35 month olds where they will experience music through singing and playing instruments.

These programs are free and open to Heggan library cardholders. Advance online or phone registration is required. Please go to programs and events at www.hegganlibrary.org or call (856) 589–3334 to register.
