Mayor’s Message — School safety, new business, birthdays and more

Mayor Joann Gattinelli announces the new SRO at WTHS, cuts the ribbon of a new restaurant in town, and celebrates the 100th birthday of two residents.

In an ongoing effort to keep our community and families safe, our chief of police has recommended, and I have approved, an additional school resource officer to be placed at the Washington Township High School. Currently, there is an agreement in place between the township and the Board of Education for police officers to be assigned within the school district to provide additional protection to our school children, teachers and staff. Public safety for Washington Township residents and families will remain a top priority for mayor and council.

On the economic development front, I was pleased to attend the ribbon cutting at the new Amalfi Restaurant on Feb. 1. This family-style Italian restaurant is located on the corner of Egg Harbor and County House roads, and is a welcome addition to our community.

On Feb. 2, I was honored and privileged to celebrate the birthdays of two of our special residents at the Township Senior Center. The Bottino’s ShopRite donated two cakes for each of the women honored. Rose Elantro and Kate Galtman both celebrated their 100th birthday. Both ladies are vibrant and remain a vital part of our community. I was very happy to be part of their 100 years young celebration.

Joann Gattinelli is the mayor of Washington Township. She can be reached at [email protected].
