Homeowners will see no increase in annual municipal taxes.
At its latest meeting, Voorhees Township Committee introduced the township’s 2018 budget.
This year’s total tentative is budget $38,531,000. Currently, the 2018 budget has no local purpose tax increase. This year’s tax rate is .814.
The local purpose rate this year 81.4 cents per every $100 of assessed property value, which is it the same as last year’s combined local and fire tax rate. There is no fire tax rate at all this year.
The average assessed home in Voorhees Township is $258,801, as the average assessed home increased about $1,000 since 2017.
Last year, taxes increased $40 per year for the average homeowner, which breaks down to approximately $3.33 per month. This increase unfolded in light of the township’s acquiring of Voorhees Fire District №3.
The open space tax is staying the same at 2 cents per every $100 of assessed property value hundred.
Township committee will be tweaking the budget over the next five weeks but says it aims to sustain the steady taxes.
“This committee does intend to bring forth a budget for this township with no local purpose tax increase this year,” Deputy Mayor Jason Ravitz said.
A public hearing for the budget is scheduled for Monday, May 14.
In other news:
• The committee passed a resolution authorizing a preliminary investigation to determine whether a portion of the Main Street Complex, specifically 7000 Main St., is in need of redevelopment pursuant to the Local Redevelopment and Housing Law, which provides a mechanism to assist local governments in efforts to promote programs of redevelopment, according to the agenda. The Voorhees Planning Board plans to use CME Associates to conduct the investigation.
• The committee’s decision regarding the potential eminent domain of the Town Center will take place at the April 23 meeting. If township committee at that meeting approves the plan, Voorhees will have the authority to acquire parts of the property, including an empty Macy’s store. The township is still waiting on potential costs.
