School district: Voters approve budget

By ROBERT LINNEHAN

Representatives from the Voorhees K-8 Public School District are reporting that voters have approved by 2011–2012 budget by a margin of nearly 300 votes. Voters also approved the Eastern Regional High School budget by a vote of 1,739 to 1,454.

These are the preliminary, unofficial results.

It is being reported that the budget was passed by a vote of 1,560 to 1,287. The $49.3 million budget will raise the average assessed homeowner’s school tax bill by $123 in 2011–2012. An average assessed home in Voorhees is valued at $335,930.

The voters also have reportedly elected a new board member to the school district’s board of education. Incumbent candidates Bruce Karpf and Richard Nelson will be joined by new member, Matthew Dortch. It’s close though, as Dortch is currently just nine votes ahead of incumbent Richard Wojdon.

Here are the candidate breakdowns:

Bruce Karpf — 1,533

Richard Nelson — 1,493

Matthew Dortch — 1,402

Richard Wojdon — 1,393
