“Big, the Musical,” bursts onto the stage in Voorhees in November in a high-energy production featuring 45 children and adults from Voorhees, Cherry Hill, Marlton, Berlin and surrounding communities A bittersweet tale about growing up, “Big, the Musical” is the Broadway adaptation of the classic, much-loved 1987 blockbuster movie, “Big.”
When frustrated adolescent Josh Baskin wishes he were “big” and wakes up the next morning a 30-year-old man, he discovers there’s much more to being an adult than he’s bargained for and learns we must all grow up at our own pace, in our own time. “Big, the Musical” opened on Broadway in 1996 and was nominated for five Tony Awards, including Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Book, Best Score and Best Choreography.
“Big, the Musical” will be performed three times, Nov. 5 at 7:30 p.m., and Nov. 6 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the Voorhees Schools Theatre located at the Voorhees Middle School, 1000 Holly Oak Drive, Voorhees. Tickets are $12 and are available at the door one hour or less prior to show time (cash or check only) or by visiting www.voorheestheatre.org (a check or credit card may be used online — a $1 per ticket Paypal fee is charged). As a community service project tied to “Big, the Musical’s” setting in a toy store, Voorhees Theatre Company’s youth advisory board will collect new toys for donation to Toys for Tots.
“Big, the Musical” is directed and choreographed by Sandi Makofsky, with vocal direction by Michael Makofsky, musical direction by Jim Sheffer, and technical design and direction by Pat McMullen.
The Voorhees Theatre Company is a non-profit community theatre organization providing opportunities for young people to experience theatre as performers, technicians, managers and audience members.
