Voorhees vacates paper street

Voorhees Township Manager Larry Spellman said the township committee voted to vacate a paper street in the township.

Removing Comp Lane from the map gave 25 feet to neighbors on either side. The move was made because one homeowner wanted to put a pool in and needed more setback.

Another item on the agenda was best practices. The state requires municipalities to answer questionnaire with items like: “Do you have a website?”

If municipalities achieve 90 percent or better they receive full state aid. Under 90 percent and the township loses 5 percent of the previous month’s aid package.

Voorhees got 48 out of the 50 questions right.

Robert Chabot, who is already animal control officer in Voorhees, was appointed to animal cruelty officer.

The committee was also advised of a tax sale.

If a resident does not pay taxes that account goes out for bid. Someone buys the debt, collects interest, and can foreclose on property if need be.

The committee is also applying for a $200,000 grant to finish paving Victor Boulevard.

Matthew McCloskey was appointed part-time police records clerk. The township lost its full-time person over the summer.

Also, the committee authorized Evesham Township to inspect a car wash on Route 73 whose parking lot is in Voorhees.

The committee was updated on the road assessment. Work will begin on five roads in October.

They include Franklin Drive, Abbey Road, Foxton Court, and Hardwood Place. Also included is a sidewalk on Route 561 from Lion’s Gate to the traffic light at Eagle Plaza.
