Voorhees native Mike Twist breaks an Elizabethtown College school-record in men’s track

Voorhees native Mike Twist’s junior season got off to a good start on Saturday, Dec. at the Bow Tie Classic at Ursinus College. Twist was the top-placing runner for the Elizabethtown College men’s track and field team and set a school record in the process.

Twist wasted no time at the start of his 1,000m, getting out well in front of the rest of the field. The record was in his reach with a lap to go and the junior turned it on over the final 100 meters to put his name atop the top ten list in the event. Twist finished in 2:33.20, narrowly getting the record that was held by Aaron Focht (2:33.30) since 2012. Twist then anchored the Jays’ 4×400-meter relay of Mitch Schlegel, Tom Fitzgerald and Sam Brooks that took third in 3:34.17.

Twist was named the Landmark Track Athlete of the Week on Monday, Dec. 7.
